In 1998 (in a past life) Michael led a successful team that won a design competition for the redevelopment of a former BT building on Canning Street in Edinburgh.

The project won Best Commercial Workplace in Scotland at the BCO Awards in 2000 as an outstanding example of the recycling of a 1970s Office Building providing 57,000 sqft of Grade A modern open plan Office accommodation. The fully air conditioned, high serviced office is in the city’s financial district.

The innovative design which included a large impressive new entrance, solar shading, a completely new glazed façade and two office extensions, was developed in close consultation with the Planning department and led to an increase in NET office Floor space of 15%.

Following its completion in 1999 the building was let to Standard Life Bank and subsequently sold to an international investor for £20 million.
