Michael Laurie Architects were commissioned early in 2023 by SCTS, Scottish Court & Tribunal Service to provide design proposals for relocating the Tribunals Hearing Rooms from George House into Edinburgh Sheriff Court (ESC).
Edinburgh Tribunals Centre has been established in George House since 2010. SCTS decided to relocate to new space after a consultation process. The proposed Tribunals Centre within Edinburgh Sheriff Court (ESC) meets the projected business needs for tribunals reflecting current and anticipated caseloads. Additionally, the new facility will provide hearing facilities which meet the “safe by design” security protocol together with an enhanced experience for users, both public and staff.
The project will see the formation of new tribunals centre on Level 6 ESC which includes a separate, dedicated SCTS Tribunals’ entrance and reception point, four hearing rooms, four judicial chambers, waiting areas, meeting rooms, sixteen desks for staff and storage for files.
The project will be undertaken by Specialist Fit Out Contractors OCS whilst Edinburgh Sheriff Court will be fully operational and requires very detailed phasing and planning.
