In 2020 COPFS commissioned MLA to prepare a design proposal for the redevelopment of their existing offices in Glasgow’s Ballater Street Development and the incorporation of staff from the nearby Legal House.
In total the project involved the fit out of four existing Office Suites and space planning for 470 staff.
The Glasgow Estates Working Group requested that the new design became the model for Future Ways of Working (FWOW), including the flexibility to work from home or a different office, and not always Ballater Street. This included an environment that is welcoming for every and any COPFS member of staff and also every visitor, including Criminal Justice partners and the public. Smarter Working is about combining benefits to the business – improved productivity, better engagement, and reduced estate costs – with benefits to our people. It is about providing the working and workplace arrangements to help our people make intelligent choices about where and when they work, improving productivity, creating a better work-life balance and providing an environment equipped for rapid change.
MLA developed a modern open-plan design where work is completed in a variety of appropriately designed, shared settings and not tethered to specific workstations or location within the building. Flexibility within design that allows for certain areas to be used for different purposes e.g. training, team-briefings, collaboration etc.
