In 2020 COPFS commissioned MLA to prepare design proposal for the relocation of their existing offices to a new building in Kirkcaldy collocated with the New Sheriff Court Annex.

In 2018 SCTS purchased part of a Grade B Listed Building formerly occupied by Police Scotland, adding two new Courtrooms to the current provision in Kirkcaldy and a wide range of ancillary accommodation to create a modern “fit for purpose” Courthouse. Importantly the project breathed new life into the Baroque styled Police Station and Bell Tower originally designed by W Williamson in 1902 which had been underutilised for many years.

The COPFS project would involve the fit out of existing Office Suites and space planning for 70 staff in the Local Court Team. MLA propose to improve the daylighting with the addition of several new rooflights.

The Estates Working Group requested that the new design became the model for Future Ways of Working (FWOW), including the flexibility to work from home or a different office, and not always Kirkcaldy. This included an environment that is welcoming for every and any COPFS member of staff and every visitor, including Criminal Justice partners and the public.
