In 2020 MLA were commissioned by SCTS to redevelop the disused Elliot Wing in Parliament House in order to relocate the Scottish Law Commission (SLC) from their Causewayside HQ. Working closely with Senior members of the SLC team, to a detailed brief and future workplace strategy, the design proposals were developed. Through careful design, the proposal gained Listed Building consent having achieved a compromise solution which balances preserving the building’s special architectural and historic interest against meeting the SLC spatial requirements.
These are significant investments in the built estate – modernising, rationalising and introducing new facilities. Meeting modern requirements and continuing to provide fit for purpose facilities to enable the delivery of justice almost inevitably involve internal and external alterations. This is particularly challenging, especially in a historic listed building.
