Michael Laurie Architects were commissioned early in 2023 by Scottish Court & Tribunal Service to provide design proposals for relocating Tribunals Hearing Rooms from George House into Parliament House (PH). The new facility will be known as Edinburgh Hearings Suite (EHS)

Included in the EHS project are two digitised Hearing Rooms for Vulnerable Witnesses, and other accommodation for staff and the judiciary which focus firmly on the needs of vulnerable Tribunals users and the public.

The proposed facility will better meet the Scottish Government’s Trauma Informed outcomes and provide safe spaces from which the most vulnerable witnesses can be supported to give their best evidence without having to fear the additional stress of appearing in a conventional Hearing Rooms. The colour palettes have also been specially chosen to make sure they are calming and offer the best possible environment for the capture of evidence.

The project was undertaken by Specialist Fit Out Contractors OCS whilst Parliament House will be fully operational and requires very detailed phasing and planning.
