MLA were commissioned in early 2018 to design the single storey extension project to a bungalow located on a steep slope in the Braids with wonderful views South towards the Pentland Hills. This traditional bungalow contained largely small cellular rooms in their original format from the 1920s.

The client’s vision was to create a large family dining/kitchen room to the rear elevation which would become the heart of the house. The solution was the demolition of a small 1970s extension and the enlargement of an open plan split level space into the rear taking advantage of the existing contours. Large garden windows were created to allow an early morning east facing aspect to benefit from good natural daylight, whilst also connecting to and offering a view into a large, stepped secluded garden.
