ROSSLYN TERRACE – PRIVATE HOUSE EXTENSION

MLA were commissioned in early 2017 to design this single storey rear extension.
The clients’ terraced house had a secluded south facing rear garden with an existing 1980s Conservatory extension. Inevitably this glazed space was impractical as it was too warm in the summer and too cold in the winter to be integral to the living spaces. Also, the change in level from the house into the conservatory further distanced the connectivity.

The solution was the design of a modern extension on a similar footprint to the conservatory. The materials chosen were more sustainable. An elegant Zinc Roof and Wester Red Cedar cladding built on the same floor level. The addition of bifold doors created a strong connection with the private garden and a large rooflight provided great natural light without much in the way of heat loss.
